Overview
Westonia’s flagship asset, the Westonia resource is based upon the substantial, broadly mineralised Edna May Gneiss lithological unit. This gold system is known to persist beyond 700m depth.
The Westonia project is located in the Eastern Wheatbelt of Western Australia, 312km east of Perth and about 1km north of the township of Westonia.
Westonia lies 12km north of the Great Eastern Highway and the standard gauge railway, the main transport arteries joining Perth to Kalgoorlie and the eastern states.
The town of Westonia is the service centre for the local Shire, with local infrastructure including access to grid power and the State water supply.
The project is the only significant mine on the Westonia Greenstone Belt and has produced in excess of 630,000 ounces of gold since mining commenced in 1911.
A substantial drilling program throughout the summer of 2005/06, centred on the Edna May Gneiss, removed previous resource uncertainty, demonstrated the existence of high-grade mineralisation typical of historical underground mining and increased the known resource estimates by 10%.
Westonia is currently concluding a number of value-adding initiatives with a view to financing project development in the coming months.
The company has identified a large number of exploration targets through its cost-effective, innovative exploration strategy and is implementing field programs to test those highest ranked targets.
The company’s management has developed and values its positive relationships with the Westonia community, statutory authorities and service providers.
Westonia owns three Mining Leases covering the historic Westonia mining field and a cleared paddock to the North of the mine, which will accommodate tailings storage facilities, evaporation ponds and other infrastructure. These leases cover a total area of approximately 774 hectares and include the current Edna May project.
